2nd Guards Film???

Postby Leon on Sun Sep 16, 2007 12:07 am

I have always wanted to and i know some other people have thaught about this too, But we could Make a Short OR full leghnth movie?
If anyone thinks this is a good idea say so.
We could base it in WW2, Russian Front. If we could obtain a large plot of land or something to tern into a battlefield set, someone to write a plot and script, I dont mind Storyboarding and Editing.
see if we can get it screened anywhere if its good.
Who can Act???
any sudgestions, anyone think we could do this?
just an idea...

Not a bad idea Leon.

Our own version of Svezda.

Why not start with a video filmed at a private battle. This would give some idea of problems or pitfalls that might need to be overcome.

you could actually maybe post the vid of a private battle on the 2nd guards website so people could experience the 2nd at its best! this would certainly attract more recruits!

Postby Welsh Comrade on Thu Sep 20, 2007 1:02 pm

Hmmm

Postby Comrade Coffin on Thu Sep 20, 2007 2:11 pm

I don't think that a group porno film would go down very well- it would certainly come under the 'speciality movie' category. Does anyone know if Tank has bought his Soviet gimp suit yet?

Tractor mounting

Postby Welsh Comrade on Thu Sep 20, 2007 5:58 pm

No, no, Comrade Coffin. I said 'promo', NOT 'porno'. Was that, prehaps, a Freudian slip on your part.....

Mind you, the thought of some lucious Proletarian mounting a tractor brings on my revolutionary fervour......

Oops!

Sorry- my mistake- a promo film would be an excellent idea & I think that Leon would be able to provide the technical suppport for such a venture. I suggest a KISS strategy though (keep it simple & short). Maybe produce something like a WW2 propaganda movie, even with Russian talk over (Bair) with subtitles, plus of course, the rousing music. It could be a series of 10 second clips:

1) Soldiers on parade.
2) Soldiers on an assault course.
3) Soldiers marching in full field gear.
4) Camp scene.
4) Charging into battle.
5) marching into the sunset after a cheer & wave to the camera.

Movies

I like the short scene sequence promo idea, Comrade Coffin. And a Russian VO but with English subtitles - clever. Lets do it.

BTW, I once set up a film production company and did a lot of editing of digital film clips. I have discussed this idea with Leon and he is game.

Digital clips

The great thing about didital filming as well is the ease of effects & you can make it look like 16mm B&W- wich would be nice.

Remember the film of us at belvoir that's on youtube.

I think that looks all the better for the Soviet music being played over the top of the film.

It's just shame the background includes some shots of the showground.

So we have already had some experience.

There's some excellent ideas here and after seeing the results of our efforts at Ft Nelson maybe we could bring this up for discussion again.

Some short clips of different scenes would look great on the website.

Has anyone got a digital camcorder?
If we do some filming I'm willing to have a go at producing clips from the recorded files.

I like nicks idea we could do a series of small clips like a promotional film for the 2nd guards but i'm thinking more along the lines of members sitting round chatting
Singing and dancing
playing cards

Perhaps we could cut between the two like 2nd guards working and 2nd guards relaxing.

what do you guys think.

Cheers Andy

Have you ever seen other people make these sort of things?

They are cringe worthy every single time. I never understand quite why they don't spot this at some point in production but... then again there are plenty of "low budget" (merely tens of thousands of pounds) commercial films that also fit into the same category!

Seriously you would be a laughing stock if you posted this...

PS I thought he wrote "porno" too :D
