maxim mounts .

Postby grigoriev on Fri May 11, 2007 12:55 pm

hi comrades , i was just looking through the ww2 forum when i noticed a thread on maxims .(soviet weapon section , stef was on there , so he knows what its about :D )

one of the items they were talking about was the different types of mounts the gun was mounted on .

i was wondering if anyone had any photos of these mounts , also the different types of shield used on the the maxim , i know of the standard one , but there was one with a view port with cover as well , are there any other types ?

cheers , grigoriev .

Unit QM Paul has had made a replica armour sheild with the extra cut out to allow the long range sight to be used.

I do have the odd pic in books, but I will have to dig them out.

I have certainly seen stuff on the 'net. I think I am right in saying that the Finns did mods too?

World Wide Arms had some sheilds a few years ago with mods to them, sliding hatches were on them.

Cheers, Ade.

grigoriev

I am one of the very few people who collect Russian Maxims and I probably started the thread on the other forum. I am currently up to 5 different patterns of M1910 pattern Maxims, all on slightly different patterns of Sokolov Mounts to reflect their year of manufacture.

If you want to have a look at some photographs take a look at this forum.

I have an example of a shield with the optical aperture which has been sealed by having a plate riveted over. The optical sight was developed between the wars and I believe saw very little use. I have never seen one for sale.

There is also this magazine if you can find anyone to translate.

If any one has any bits to trade / sell please contact me.

Some interesting pictures there comrade m1910.

I like the Rambo style pose about fourth picture down.
Also I jave not seen the mount carried over the shoulders before.

Thank you for those.
