Apart from the obvious disrespect to what they are unearthing and themselves, what a bunch of brain donors... Shocked
I particularly cringed when I saw them rolling mortar bombs down a bank, RIGHT ONTO THE PRESSURE FUSE OF OTHER MORTAR BOMBS! Don't forget, when Mr. mortar round has been buried for nearly seventy years, he isn't your friend anymore.

I suggest those guys are probably EOD actually... a bit slapdash, but none the less known what they are doing...

No, the EOD search parties are uniformed and sober while on duty. The people who went to Leningrad this January met their boss after the battle, a really nice guy who brought his own vodka. Smile
These are unofficial excavators. No EOD people would be that cavalier with potentially live ordnance, surely.

WHAT THE SH*T!!!!!, i don't believe people can be so destructive and stupid on battlefield excavations! thats got me really angry - i mean really, archaeology is all about the destruction of archaeological in the sence of taking artifacts out of their context, not litrally blowing up the entire site and all the artefacts! grr none of that behaviour on my archaeological expedition...

But I don't see that video as any attempt to recover anything - they are digging up ordnance and making it safe by controlled explosion...

Sometimes I think we of this hobby are a little blinkered in our view of the world. To 99% of the world, thats not "history" its "dangerous industrial polution of the environment"...

Certainly are! The ground charges at the battle at Nikolskoe(about twenty of them, very creditably simulating an opening bombardment) were half sticks of dynamite, dropped into holes augered into the earth and then covered with compost.
There is no health and safety culture beyond common sense. Brilliant explosions, though.
