Cold-war era VDV (urrah urrah urrah!) blue beret

Postby Polski-privet on Wed Mar 26, 2008 11:59 pm

Looking for one of the larger-than-NATO size blue berets used by the VDV before 1991. The only ones I seem to be able to find are the smaller modern ones, without the manufacturer's ink writing on the inside leather diamond.

What size Comrade?

PS you are 100% accurate of your description of the item you seek here, Moscow Centre congratulates you on your political perspective ;-)

Thank you comrade! :D
Size 59 is optimal, but will fit a 58 just as well. Arn't the berets are adjustable to a certain extent with a cord round the band at the bottom?

If you take a 59, you can certainly get away with a 58, maybe even a 57. I take a 60, but my beret is only a 58, fits nice and snug and doesnt fall off!

Like all Soviet headgear, the fashion was small as possible...

I shall keep my eyes out for one for you.

Which one do you mean? The AK74S (which is a full sized rifle with a skeleton folding stock and shown in the pic above) or the AK74SU (which is a shortened carbine with a skeleton folding stock)?

Both can be seen on the WPFG website...

:D

More precisely here:

(AK74SU on left, AK74S on right - the skeleton stock isnt too apparent as the sling is wrapped round it to keep it out the way - Soviet stylee! Oh and the mag looks bigger on the AK74S because I have the 45 round RPK74 mag in it :D)
